Merilinna. Art Nouveau in Light

Over a hundred years old, Merilinna is an Art Nouveau style residential building located next to Helsinki’s Kaivopuisto Park and is one of the area’s well-known architectural landmarks. During the façade renovation, we designed both façade and courtyard lighting that highlights the building’s historic architecture while also improving practical functionality. Although our initial vision was to illuminate the entire façade, the city only permitted a more limited solution.

The façade lighting emphasizes the house’s distinctive features and creates a dignified cityscape in the evening. In the courtyard, the lighting design focused on comfort and safety. Special attention was given to illuminating the entrances as well as to clear and elegant number luminaires that guide both residents and visitors. The solution combines architectural expression and practical needs into a harmonious whole.
